I'm out of my depth...
so I'm writing an article for my prospective jewish wedding newsletter on having an "eco-kosher" wedding. And so I read through "eco-chic weddings" and "simply green parties" and I have half a dozen additional books on the subject on order at the library (no point in purchasing just yet).
I've also reviewed a number of websites dealing with this.

Here's my first, of what I'm sure will be many, questions on the subject.

One of my notes of a tip I keep seeing repeated is is "only include direction cards for guests who don't use the Internet." But all that would do is encourage guests to use their own printers and use more paper, whereas most venues have stock of pre-printed direction cards. Usually you can get 4 cards to one sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 paper, unlike people who print their own maps and may use 1-2 sheets. So it would seem to me the more eco-friendly choice is to use the paper that's already been printed, no? Not sending them to guests with GPS seems like a good idea, but how on earth would you know which guests have GPS and which don't?
Am I missing something here, or are the sources I've read missing something?

more advice sought: really long term media storage
Computers have a life span. Companies, no matter how fantastic, often have life spans. While I'm willing to risk uploading all my pics & videos of Shevs to google for now, I want a long term back up. You know, for when she's all grown up and stuff (though that'll never happen, will it? she's staying this small and cuddly forever, right?).
Are DVDs really the best way to go for backups of this stuff (pics & videos, mostly)?
Thanks!

Funniest hubby
My husband is just the funniest... we have the sandra boyton books. and he read through "blue hat, green hat" but instead of reading "oops" at the end of each page, he said "but not the hippopotamus" (blue hat, green hat, red hat, but not the hippopatamus!) and then he read "but not the hippapotamus" but said "oops" instead of "but not the hippopatomus!" (the hog and a frog cavort in the bog, Oops!). the whole way through both of them. Shevs stared at him like he was nuts - and at me for laughing so hard.
I guess you have to know the books to get the joke...

Current Mood: amused

Best way to dispose of old computers and parts?
Anybody have advice on how best to dispose of some old, relatively useless, computers and random computer parts? I'd prefer something charitable, but I'll settle for just environmentally friendly.

Need some help of the technical sort
I have dozens of short videos of Elisheva saved on my hardrive. Most are also uploaded to google videos and posted in her blog. I'd like to also copy them to a dvd. I don't have a dvd burner, but that's the 2nd problem. The first problem is that I'd like to organize and add short titles to them before burning them so that if we watch the dvd on the t.v. there's a brief introduction.
Anybody know of a website/company that does this? I dont' mind paying for the service... just want it done so I can clear some space on my hardrive. (over 15 GB just of pics and videos of Shevs...)

Why I still love sesame street
GNN = Grouch News Network. Oscar the grouch is our host.
He's going around showing all these "bad news" stories around Sesame street. So Oscar here's a breaking news story alert (you hear a plate breaking) and we go to the scene to discover that poor cookie monster's cookie has broken. He's devastated! He's going on and on about how his cookie is broken. Oscar, attempting to make it worse, turns to the camera in a somber voice and says something like "Tragic story of monster with one perfect cookie now has to settle for two broken ones" or something which leads cookie monster to realize how terrific - two cookies! Now he's happy again! Oscar shlumps back to the "newsroom" (his garbage can) and takes a call from his girlfriend who tells him how terrible and awful it is that he reported good news! he has to report BAD news or she's going to change the channel and his ratings will plummet! So Oscar goes to the scene of Prince Charming trying to play checkers with SLeeping Beauty, but she keeps falling asleep! Oscar, again while trying ot make it worse, accidently tells the prince if he kisses Sleeping Beauty, she'll wake up so he does and all is well. Oscar returns to the newsroom devastated by his failure to report bad news! His girlfriend calls and says:
"If I wanted to watch trash news I'd change to FOX NEWS!"

Hehe.

Ah Sesame Street, I've missed you
What the heck happened to you anyway?

They changed the opening. The "Sunny Days" song is still there but they've changed it. There are new characters - which is fine w/me, since most of the old ones are still there. What I'm finding the most amusing is the amount of actor crossover between sesame street and saturday night live. Tina Fey as a book-a-neer was hysterical. Alas, Shevs didn't get the joke.

I remember Sesame street was brought to you by the letters of the day, a number of the day and the Helena Rubinstein foundation. Now McDonalds, and a bunch of other companies have their names in there. Thats kind of depressing to me, but I guess that's life. They have to take the $$ where they can.

Shevs and slept a bit better last night and I'm finding I have much more patience today than yesterday. I'm truly hoping that tonight she wont wake up at all at 3 a.m. She'll just skip and sleep straight 'til 6 a.m. (8 a.m. would be ideal, but I'm aiming to be reasonable and take what I can get here). I think in some ways it might be a good thing that Shevs is difficult at night. She's such an angel during the day I could see myself pushing for #2 ahead of schedule if she'd been an angel at night too. That wouldn't be good. I'm definitely not ready for #2 yet.

Another funny fact about Shevs, which won't surprise anyone: she's very giggly. She giggles at everything. I guess that's expected as I've been told I'm somewhat giggly myself. :-p

Oy. there she goes again trying to eat my wireless card. Why won't she play with HER toys? why does she keep trying to eat MINE?

Out with the veggies, in with the chocolate
Ok, so spinach and lettuce are out.. now carrots can paralyze you...

So, I should skip the veggies and stick with chocolate and ice cream? Is that what the world is trying to tell me?

Ok, so I changed my mind.
I know I said I wasn't going to read Harry Potter 6 until book 7 came out but I was bored and it was there...

Book 6 spoilers, for those rare souls who haven't read it but plan to )
